Ammonium chloride (NH₄Cl) is an inorganic compound and white crystalline salt that is highly soluble in water, forming mildly acidic solutions. Naturally occurring as the mineral sal ammoniac, it is used in fertilizers as a nitrogen source, in medicine as an expectorant (especially in cough medicine), and in glue for bonding plywood. Additionally, it is utilized in Leclanche cells in aqueous solutions.
