This medium combines the lead acetate formulation as described by Kligler with the characteristics of Russell's Double Sugar Agar. It serves as a differential medium, particularly useful for distinguishing between typhoid, dysentery, and related bacilli. The medium effectively differentiates lactose fermenters from non-fermenters, and can distinguish Salmonella Typhi from other Salmonella species. Additionally, it helps in differentiating Salmonella Paratyphi A from Salmonella Scottmuelleri and Salmonella Enteritidis.
